ARG Marine Presents: How To Maintain Proper Boat Launch Etiquette
When it comes to used boat motors for sale by owner, new boat motors, and service and repairs, ARG Marine is the place to go. We also like our customers to be informed about different things in the boating world. If you’re new to the boating world, things might be a little confusing.
This time around, we’d like to discuss the all-important boat launch etiquette. All boaters should know the dos and don’ts of launching a boat. Let’s take a look.
Don’t Clog the Courtesy Dock
Many public boat launches have courtesy docks where you can quickly load and unload passengers on your boat. However, you shouldn’t use the courtesy dock to pack your fishing gear, transfer your baggage or fill your coolers. One of the main elements of boat launch etiquette is to be expedient. Packing your boat while you’re sitting at the courtesy dock is anything but courteous.
Don’t Socialize At the Ramp
Even if your buddy is right behind you at the launch, you should resist socializing as you launch your boat. If there’s a line, socializing at the ramp is a big no-no. Load your boat in or out of the water as quickly as possible, and then you can socialize.
Don’t Power Load Your Boat Onto Your Trailer
When you start to load your boat on the trailer to get it out of the water, it’s not a good idea to hit the throttle to power it over to the edge of your trailer. ARG Marine wants you to know that power loading your boat can cause propeller wash that erodes the sediment on the ramp. Power loading might not seem like a big deal at first, but if it’s done over and over, it can create a hole that may cause other trailers to get stuck. Instead, approach at a normal slow speed and use your winch to pull your boat all the way onto the trailer.
Get Familiar With the Boat Launch Before You Go
If you’re heading to a boat launch for the first time, it’s a good idea to know before you go. Visit it in advance to watch how the launch functions. Look for signs that indicate any precautions or instructions. Find a good spot to prepare your boat, and watch what other boaters do. Doing this will help you be comfortable when you do arrive with your boat.
Save Time and Hassle By Preparing Your Boat Ahead
Don’t be the person who pulls up to the launch ramp totally unprepared to launch. Get your boat prepared to launch well out of the way of the ramp. This way, when you pull up to launch, your only concern is getting your boat off the trailer and into the water, and not a million other things.
Think About Bringing a Friend
Seasoned boaters will tell you that launching a boat and being out on the water is a lot easier and way more fun with a friend. Once the boat is safely launched, the other person can go park the truck and trailer in the parking area, and then come down to the courtesy dock to board. Quick and easy!
